As I'm sure many of you know, there are many knitting podcasts available. I only watch a few of the ones available but I've fallen into a hole of podcasts and I just keep digging myself deeper and deeper. I currently have 129 YouTube videos on my watch later list and 91(!) of those are knitting podcasts.
It wasn't always like this. But one too many busy weekends and it started to build up. Also, I like to actually sit and watch these, so I don't put them on when I'm doing things like the dishes like I do with other podcasts. Once I do find time to sit down and watch a few it seems like a whole new batch get released and my list stays just as long. Hence, podcast purgatory. It seems like no matter how many I watch, I just can't get caught up. Not that this is a particularly bad problem - but I would like my list to be a lot shorter.
I thought it would be fun to do a quick list of which podcasts I watch and why I like them. Feel free to leave suggestions for other podcasts I should follow! I've linked to each podcast on YouTube, which is where I watch all of them.
- Knitting in Circles
- No longer putting out new episodes, but this was my first knitting podcast and I think Aimee and Darren do a great job of explaining any modifications or tricky parts of patterns they're making. I think they go beyond "here's what I made this week" and dive deeper into the construction elements for most of their items. In the more recent episodes, they also get into spinning.
- Knitting Expat
- I feel like everyone and their mother knows about Mina. If you happen to not know, Mina is originally from England and now currently lives in Bahrain with her husband and two cats (who make frequent appearances!). She is an amazingly fast knitter so pretty much every episode has multiple finished objects. She is also a knitwear designer and has put out a few technique tutorial videos out as well.
- Yarn Lab Canada
- Sara is a new mom to twin boys and Season 1 (as she calls it) of her podcast was all about knitting for her twins. She also crochets, spins and dyes her own fiber/yarn. She's a relatively new podcaster but she explains things very well and has a lot of knowledge to share. Also (as I mentioned in my Yarn Snobbery post), she is one of the only podcasters I know of who really embraces acrylic yarns and what you can do with them.
- Very Pink Knits
- I don't think this channel is technically a podcast, but I love Staci's videos. They range from technique tips to full pattern tutorials. The whole reason I started knitting socks was because of watching her videos. Whenever a pattern calls for a new technique, I go straight to her.
- Brooklyn Knitfolk
- Jaclyn is a self-labeled beginner knitter and it is fun watching her expand her knitting skills. I haven't watched too many of her episodes, but I look forward to catching up!
- Stitched in Sweden
- Maria is a knitter and designer who lives in Stockholm, Sweden. Every episode she talks a bit about life in Sweden. Her projects always seem very refined and delicate and it is interesting seeing what she makes for the long, cold winters of Sweden.
- Handmade and Woolen (formerly Tiny Paper Foxes)
- Jennie and Devon co-host this podcast (with Colin the cat) about their progress making a handmade wardrobe. Knitting, sewing, and spinning are covered in almost every episode. They've recently moved from NYC to Vermont and it is interesting hearing about the differences between the two places.
- The Dyer's Notebook
- Laura is the dyer behind Gynx Yarns and the Dyer's Notebook is one of the more dye-heavy podcasts I follow. As part of her podcast, Laura walks through her dyeing process in a very informative and interesting manner. She also shows off her knitting in each episode and since she lives in Texas, she has different type of projects than some of the more northern podcasters.
- Inside Number 23
- This is the newest to me podcast and I've only watched a few episodes so far but I just love Katie's energy. Watching these episodes is an instant pick-me-up!
- AndreSue Knits
- I think AndreSue and her family do everything and anything fiber related. Knitting, crocheting, weaving, needle felting, and dyeing, all make it onto the podcast at some point. They have also adopted an angora rabbit and he is adorable. If you're looking for variety in your fiber arts, this is the podcast for you!
- Yarngasm
- Kristin is the owner and dyer behind Voolenvine yarns and her podcast combines her personal knitting projects with some occasional behind the scenes views of her dyeing business. Her cat Bella makes fairly regular appearances (kitties are always a plus for me in case you didn't notice by now). She also goes outside the world of knitting and shares about her life in Brooklyn, NY. She knits, spins, and sews so there is always a good variety in her episodes.
