New Projects!

I currently have 3 projects on the needles.  A pair of socks, a cardigan, and a fingering weight shawl.  I've been working on these projects for the past 2 months and, to be honest, it has been slow going.  So, this weekend, I caked up 5 skeins of yarn and picked out 4 more projects (but only cast on 2 because I really hate casting on).  Now, you may be saying to yourself "why would she cast on more projects when she already has 3 fairly substantial projects on the needles?"  And to this I say: I came down with a bad case of cast-onitis and it isn't my fault.

At least having some new projects to work on did light the knitting spark again so I actually made more progress on my older projects than these new projects.  So, here are the two new projects that I've cast on this past week:

First, I cast on Jaffrey by Michele Wang.  I picked this pattern out for my mom for her birthday because she requested a hat and she really liked the ones I made for my grandmas last year for Christmas and both of them had a cable motif.  I'm using Gynx Yarns in her single merino, which is a lovely yarn.  It is a superwash yarn, which is always a plus, especially for gifts for non-knitters.  The yarn is one of her Experimental Dye Lot (#22) and so far, the hat is turning out great.

The second project I cast on is a little more complicated.   I had a beautiful skein of Voolenvine Yarns Gorey Yarn club yarn which I couldn't really justify turning into a pair of socks.  So, an hour or two of Ravelry searching later and I found Song of the Sea cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham.
I thought that the pattern would break up the colors of this yarn.  I do think the yarn is very pretty, but just not my color palette (mostly the highlighter yellow part).  So, I thought that the pattern would help blend in the yellow and maybe not make it quite so bright.  I got almost through the first wave repeat and decided that I probably would never wear this and I couldn't think of anyone who would really love to have this cowl.  So, I took this picture of my progress and then ripped it all back out.  I'm pretty sure this is going to turn into a pair of socks.  I really do want to make this cowl and will keep it in my queue for later.

In other knitting news, I've gotten to the toe decrease of my Hermione's Everyday Socks so hopefully I'll be able to finish those tonight and then cast on some new socks as I'm two months behind on my Box 'o Sox KAL.
